Does Coffee Go Bad? A Guide Keeping Coffee Fresh
This is a question asked often. Short answer – yes.
Old coffee isn’t likely to make you sick, however the flavour will be seriously lacking. This post explains all the factors that can affect coffee freshness and what to do to make your coffee last as long as possible. Here are the key points:
Get your coffee from somewhere that roasts on site (heads up, that’s us!). This reduces the amount of time the roasted coffee spends travelling for distribution.
Look for the roast date. Most coffee roasters should provide the date that the coffee beans were roasted, so you can know exactly how old your coffee is.
Finally, and most importantly, STORAGE! It is best to store your coffee somewhere dark and cool in a good coffee storage canister. We recommend the MiiR Coffee Canister for smaller amounts or the Friis Coffee Vault for large quantities of beans. Both of which we sell in store.
